Gritti
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
The mango hits like a machete through ripe flesh—juicy, fibrous, almost aggressively tropical. Guava adds a pink, musky sweetness whilst neroli's petitgrain-like bitterness tries valiantly to contain the fruit explosion, creating a tension between indulgence and restraint that's genuinely compelling.
Osmanthus emerges with its characteristic apricot-leather duality, smoothing the fruit into something more refined whilst ylang's creamy, slightly rubbery floralcy weaves through. The coconut milk accord is clever here—not suntan lotion, but the thick, barely-sweet liquid from a cracked shell, adding body without turning the composition into a piña colada pastiche.
What remains is a soft, vanillic amber with just enough oud-adjacent woodiness to anchor the lingering fruit sweetness. The synthetic quality becomes more apparent now, reading as a smooth, almost airbrushed skin scent—clean musk meeting caramelised vanilla with whispers of that initial mango still ghosting through.
Mango Aoud announces itself with the brazen confidence of a tropical fruit vendor who's wandered into a Venetian perfumery and decided to stay. This is Luca Gritti at his most playful, orchestrating a collision between dripping, Alphonso mango flesh and the dark, resinous depth of oud that somehow avoids descending into the tacky morass that plagues so many fruit-meets-wood compositions. The guava and neroli in the opening provide crucial support—the guava amplifying that luscious, almost fermented quality of overripe mango, whilst neroli's bitter-green edge stops everything from collapsing into pure confection.
What's fascinating here is how the osmanthus in the heart acts as a bridge between tropical excess and creamy restraint. Its apricot-suede facets marry naturally with both the fruit above and the coconut milk below, creating a texture that's simultaneously plush and surprisingly airy. The ylang adds a buttery, banana-tinged floralcy that some might find crosses into headshop territory, but it's precisely this synthetic boldness—that 76% accord reading isn't lying—that gives Mango Aoud its modern, unapologetic character.
