FragranceAtlas (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website fragranceatlas.co.uk (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you visit our Service.
We are based in the United Kingdom and comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Where we serve users in the European Economic Area, we also comply with the EU GDPR.
If you create an account, we collect your email address and an authentication token. Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth. We do not store passwords directly—they are managed by Supabase’s secure authentication infrastructure.
Your fragrance collection is stored locally in your browser (localStorage). If you choose to share your collection, it is saved to our database and associated with a unique shareable link.
We collect anonymous usage analytics via Vercel Analytics to understand how the Service is used. This may include pages visited, browser type, referring URL, and approximate geographic location derived from your IP address. We do not use third-party tracking cookies.
Certain features (e.g. scent profile analysis, natural language search, personalised recommendations) send fragrance data from your collection to our server, which processes it using AI language models (Anthropic Claude). We do not send personal information to AI providers—only aggregated fragrance metadata (accord types, note families, scores).
We use minimal cookies and local storage for essential functionality:
We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.
Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. Shared collections are retained until you delete them or request deletion. Analytics data is retained in aggregate form for up to 24 months. You can delete your locally stored data at any time by clearing your browser’s localStorage.
Under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR, you have the right to:

Some of our third-party service providers are based outside the UK and EEA. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including standard contractual clauses approved by the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
The Service is not directed at individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
