Histoires de Parfums
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
The cinnamon and cardamom arrive with immediate spiced intensity, nearly hot on the skin, whilst ginger's fresh pepperiness cuts through like a blade. Frankincense smoke curls beneath, already hinting at the incense-rich depths to come.
The rose emerges as a dried, almost parchment-like presence, settling into conversation with the frankincense as the initial spice fever breaks. Tobacco leaf unfolds from the base, introducing a creased, slightly leathery warmth that softens the fragrance's edges without compromising its structural integrity.
The oud becomes the dominant voice—animalic, slightly medicinal, refusing to recede. Patchouli and tobacco create a dusky, earthy foundation where the fragrance settles into itself, becoming quieter but somehow more present, a lingering meditation rather than a fading memory.
Prolixe announces itself as a spice merchant's confessional—all cinnamon bark and cardamom pods tumbling into a thurible of frankincense smoke. Julien Rasquinet has constructed something deliberately verbose here (the name rather gives it away), a fragrance that refuses whispers. The opening spice accord is genuinely peppery, with ginger adding a crystalline bite that prevents the cinnamon from softening into gourmand territory. What's remarkable is how the rose arrives not as a floral soprano but as a shadow—a dried rose petal caught between the pages of an old manuscript, almost leathery in its integration with the frankincense's church-incense deepness.
The woody-patchouli base is where Prolixe reveals its true character: this isn't a fragrance content to be merely aromatic. Tobacco leaf provides a creased, slightly animalic warmth that grounds the spice's initial exuberance, while oud threads through with a quietly animalic persistence—not the screaming oud of designer fragrances, but something more contemplative, almost whispered. The patchouli binds everything together with earthy, slightly vetiver-like dryness.
