M. Micallef
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
The peach and plum hit like preserved fruit straight from the jar, sweet and syrupy with none of the tartness you'd get from the actual produce. It's an almost jammy quality, thick and overtly fruity, with just enough freshness to stop it reading as entirely gourmand from the first spray.
The tuberose unfurls with jasmine beside it, both flowers given a creamy, vanilla-laced treatment that dulls their sharper edges whilst amplifying their sweetness. The Bourbon vanilla begins its slow takeover, weaving between the white florals and creating this rich, custard-like texture that sits on the skin like silk soaked in syrup.
What remains is a powdery vanilla-amber hybrid with wisps of white musk keeping it close to the skin, the florals now mere ghosts adding complexity to what's essentially become a gourmand skin scent. The sweetness persists but softens, like the memory of expensive face powder and faded tuberose petals pressed between the pages of a book.
Watch is an unabashed love letter to the syrupy sweet white florals of the early 2010s, when excess was the point and restraint was for minimalists. The peach and plum opening reads like tinned fruit in heavy syrup—none of that fresh, dewy nonsense—whilst the tuberose and jasmine at its heart are amplified by Bourbon vanilla into something that borders on indolic before the gourmand elements pull it back from the brink. This is tuberose wearing velvet gloves, its natural funk smoothed over with sugar until it becomes something almost edible.
The white musk and amber base keeps the composition hovering in that interesting space between skin scent and full-throated floral assault, whilst the vanilla—there's quite a lot of it—ties the fruit to the flowers with sticky, caramelised threads. It's unapologetically feminine in a classical sense, though the "unisex" designation isn't entirely misplaced; there's a certain bravado to wearing something this overtly sweet that transcends gender. The powdery accord emerges as the hours pass, softening the edges like icing sugar dusted over everything.
