Philly & Phill
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
The cherry arrives with tart immediacy, accompanied by bergamot's zesty brightness—a fresh, almost sparkling burst that could momentarily trick you into expecting something fruity and innocent. Within three minutes, however, white leather begins its creeping presence, cool and slightly metallic, pulling the composition away from sweetness and into something far more cerebral and sophisticated.
By the second hour, violet has bloomed with a powdery, slightly soapy character that softens the leather's edges without subduing it entirely. The cherry has retreated to a whisper—a vague sweetness that lingers in the background—whilst the white leather and violet create an almost skin-like quality, something that smells of expensive jackets and leather-bound books left in the sun.
The birch wood emerges as the fragrance settles into its final hours, bringing a pale, slightly smoky woodiness that mingles with patchouli's subtle earthiness. The leather persists as a phantom, a memory rather than an active presence, whilst the base creates something austere and contemplative—closer to wood shavings and shadow than anything opulent.
Eve Goes Eden is a fragrance that walks a tightrope between orchard and dressing room—neither fully natural nor entirely refined, which is precisely where its intrigue lies. Jérôme Epinette has constructed something deliberately provocative: cherry and bergamot arrive with a brightness that suggests sun-warmed fruit, but the violet and white leather that emerge almost immediately reframe the sweetness as something studied, even artificed. This is not a gourmand fragrance, despite the cherry's initial insistence; instead, the leather grounds everything with a cool, almost tailored restraint that prevents the composition from tipping into candy-like territory.
The character here is unapologetically sensual without being classically feminine or masculine. There's an androgynous sophistication at play—someone equally comfortable in a leather jacket as in silk. The sweet accord (88%) could have cloyed, but the white leather's drying properties and the birch wood's subtle astringency in the base create a perpetual tension that keeps the scent from becoming one-dimensional. It's slightly austere, vaguely animalic, touched with something illicit.
