Pierre Guillaume
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
Candied orange arrives with immediate brightness, its sticky sweetness punctuated by red ginger's sharp bite—almost peppery at first, almost candy-like. Within moments the ginger settles into a warmer spice, making way for the composition's denser elements to emerge.
Copaiba balsam dominates now, bringing an amber-resinous warmth that feels almost medicinal yet deeply comforting. Myrrh adds dusty, incense-like character whilst amaretto weaves through with soft almond sweetness, creating a sophisticated amber-gourmand that's neither too sweet nor austere.
Sandalwood and acajou wood settle into a creamy, woody base with lingering resin and hints of amber. The fragrance becomes increasingly intimate, a soft woody-spicy skin scent that emphasises warmth over projection, ultimately fading to a whisper of balsam and creamy wood.
Bois de Copaïba announces itself as a candied confection before revealing something far more contemplative beneath. The opening salvo of candied orange and red ginger establishes a gourmand premise, but this is merely the perfume's polite introduction to what becomes a deeply resinous, almost medicinal meditation on wood and balsam.
The heart is where Pierre Guillaume's composition finds its true voice. Copaiba balsam—that thick, honeyed resin with subtle incense undertones—mingles with myrrh to create an almost liturgical warmth, whilst amaretto adds a soft almond sweetness that prevents the composition from veering into austere territory. This is the moment when Bois de Copaïba stops being a dessert and becomes an amber-tinged reverie, something you might encounter in a 17th-century apothecary or a wood-panelled library on a November afternoon.
