Tom Tailor
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
Cherry blossom nectar hits with the subtlety of a liqueur-soaked dessert, all crystallised petals and rose syrup thick enough to coat your teeth. The rose liqueur note amplifies the sweetness to almost cloying levels, creating a pink, fruity-floral cloud that's more confectionery counter than Hawaiian beach.
Ylang ylang's creamy, slightly overripe character merges seamlessly with amaretto, producing a marzipan-laden floral that borders on gourmand territory. Vanilla swirls through like condensed milk, thickening the composition into something almost edible, whilst the powdery aspects begin softening the edges into a hazy, bonbon-like sweetness.
Cashmeran's woody-musky backbone finally emerges, providing some much-needed structure to the sugar rush, whilst tonka bean reinforces the almond theme with its hay-like, coumarinic warmth. The sandalwood reads more as a creamy, synthetic whisper than actual wood, leaving a powdery, vaguely animalic (that rankness, perhaps) skin scent that's softer but still decidedly sweet.
Nathalie Lorson's Summer Of Love Hawaii reads like a love letter to early 2000s gourmand maximalism, where floral sweetness collides with almond liqueur in a haze of synthetic florals and creamy woods. The cherry blossom nectar—more candied than botanical—melds with rose liqueur to create an opening that's unabashedly syrupy, like someone's spiked a bottle of Hanami Saké with grenadine and rosewater. This isn't delicate Japanese cherry blossom; it's the Western fantasy of it, all sugar-glazed petals and pink-tinted nostalgia.
The heart amplifies the sweetness exponentially. Ylang ylang's natural banana-custard facets get turbocharged by amaretto's marzipan richness, whilst vanilla thickens the whole affair into something approaching olfactory treacle. It's a fragrance that wears its 2003 provenance proudly—this is the era when subtlety was considered boring, when perfumes competed to be the sweetest thing in the room. That "rankness" note listed in the base provides crucial ballast; cashmeran's woody-musky ISO E Super vibes prevent this from becoming entirely edible, whilst tonka bean doubles down on the almond-vanilla theme with its coumarinic warmth.
