Aurora Scents
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
Pink pepper ignites first, sharp and almost prickling against skin, whilst geranium contributes a green, slightly astringent character that borders on soapy. The saffron threads through this spicy lattice with warm, slightly metallic depth, and that chemical note lends an almost vinyl-like plasticity to the first impression—unsettling in the best way.
The rose and musk gradually soften the peppery aggression, introducing a powdery, subtly animalic quality that feels intimate rather than loud. The spice never truly recedes; instead, it becomes a constant hum beneath the floral heart, creating an almost peppery-rose dynamic that feels deliberately unbalanced.
Cedarwood and white amber settle into skin, the cistus contributing a faint leathery dryness that prevents the base from becoming saccharine. What remains is an increasingly abstract, woody-amber whisper—more conceptual impression than actual scent, fading into that subtle soapy-musk accord.
Aroma IX arrives as a studied contradiction—simultaneously peppery and powdery, sharp and soft. Thierry Wasser has constructed something that refuses easy categorisation: the geranium-saffron pairing in the opening creates an almost medicinal freshness, that distinctive green-metallic edge of geranium leaf tempered by saffron's earthy, slightly animalic warmth. This is not a traditionally pretty floral. The chemical note listed in the composition speaks to a deliberate artificiality, a glossy, almost synthetic sheen that sits atop the naturalistic florals like a varnish.
As the composition settles, rose and musk emerge from beneath that peppery veil, but they're rendered in a distinctly contemporary manner—the musk feels skin-close and slightly soapy rather than animalic, whilst the rose reads more as a blurred impression than a clear note. The spice (88% accord weighting) persists as a through-line, never dropping away entirely. This is where Aroma IX reveals its character: it's a fragrance for the person who finds traditional florals cloying, who gravitates towards challenging abstractions but hasn't entirely abandoned sensuality.
