Juliette Has A Gun
A unique visual signature based on accords, character, and seasonality
That pear hits like a slap of cold juice, astringent and almost sour, with a metallic greenness that reads more vegetable than dessert. Within minutes, ambroxan begins its mineral hum beneath the fruit, creating an odd juxtaposition of orchard and ocean, sweet flesh and saline skin.
The pear recedes into a suggestion as the musks begin their slow bloom, that characteristic habanolide softness wrapping around the ambroxan like cashmere. It's here that the fragrance finds its stride—no longer overtly fruity, but a musky-fresh hybrid that sits close to the skin, radiating clean warmth with that persistent mineral shimmer underneath.
What remains is almost entirely synthetic musk—a soft, slightly soapy cocoon of ambrettolide and muscenone that feels like expensive laundry or very clean skin. The pear is now just a phantom sweetness, a memory of fruit that makes the musky base feel less austere, more lived-in and human.
Pear Inc. is Romano Ricci's exercise in radical minimalism, a fragrance that gleefully weaponises synthetics to create something utterly modern and strangely compelling. The opening pear is so vivid, so achingly fresh, it borders on hallucinogenic—not the soft, poached pear of gourmand perfumery, but something sharper, more metallic, like biting into unripe fruit whilst standing in a climate-controlled laboratory. This is pear refracted through a prism of ambroxan and a trio of muscone molecules that give the composition an almost skinlike intimacy.
What makes this fascinating is how Ricci has stripped away all the usual fruity fragrance scaffolding—no vanilla safety net, no sandalwood to soften the blow. Instead, that green pear note collides headlong with ambroxan's saline minerality, creating a tension that feels both fresh and oddly warm. The habanolide and ambrettolide lend a musky lactonic quality that hovers somewhere between skin and fabric softener, whilst muscenone adds an animalic edge that prevents this from becoming another vapid fruit cocktail.
